How this is calculated. In plain words.
- 1
The daily rate is the monthly rent divided by the days in the month, or rent times 12 divided by 365, or rent divided by 30, depending on the method.
- 2
For a move-in, the tenant pays from the move-in date through the end of the month. For a move-out, from the first through the move-out date.
- 3
Prorated rent is the daily rate times the days charged.
This calculator gives an estimate for planning only. It is not financial, tax or legal advice.
Partial months, settled.
Which proration method should I use?
Use the one your lease names. The exact days in the month is common; a 365-day year or a 30-day month gives slightly different results. Pick one and use it for every tenant.
Is the move-in day charged?
Yes. For a move-in the tenant pays from the move-in date through the last day of the month, and for a move-out from the first of the month through the move-out date.
Is the result advice?
No. It is an estimate for planning, using only the numbers you type. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere; the calculation runs in your browser.
